Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore was established in 1981 by Ananda Social and Education Trust,with the objective of providing Primary, Secondary and Tertiary health care facilities to the deserving. The institution also envisages provision of quality medical education both for Undergraduates and Post graduates.The college also has facilities for cultural and sports activities for students fulfilling the need for extra curricular activities. The curriculum followed, is as per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, which awards the various degrees & diplomas.
The Ananda Social and Educational Trust was set up as the outcome of a dream of committed Scheduled Caste persons to make a positive contribution for the betterment of SC and ST people, by opening up new avenues for them to find better slots in the social hierarchy. Ananda Trust to start a medical college on 6th July 1981 at Cooke Town. Subsequently, the Karnataka Government and Sri.B.Basavalingappa extended generous help with the allotment of 25 acres of land at Kadugondanahalli, at virtually no cost, to build its own campus.
