Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences was established in the year 1980 by the Vokkaligara Sangha and is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka.
The Vokkaligara Sangha took a formal decision on 2.9.1979 to start a medical college from the year 1980-81 and applied for permission to the Registrar, Bangalore University.
On 30.11.1980 the Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri. R Gundu Rao laid the foundation stone of the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital in the premises of the Sangha and announced the grant of vacant land in Banashankari to be used for the construction of college building and hostels. Thereafter, the Sangha appointed Dr M Basavaraju, Professor of Physiology as the principal on 1.1.1981 and other staff by March 1981 and classes were started regularly from the 16th of March 1981. Since then 16th March is observed every year as KIMS Day. The Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Institute was held in the year 2006.
A Magnificent college building to mark the centenary celebrations of the Vokkaligara Sangha and the Silver Jubilee of KIMS has been built at the Banashankari Campus.
KIMS is located in two sections:-
* Pre-clinical and Para Clinical departments are Located at Banashankari IInd Stage near BDA complex, Bangalore-560070.
* Clinical departments and KIMS Hospital are located at the KIMS Hospital K.R Road, V.V Puram, Bangalore-560004, 4kms from the College campus.
The college has its own campus and offers facilities like well lighted and spacious classrooms, library, internet, laboratories, placement assistance to all the students. The eligibilty for undergraduate courses is 10+2 pass and for post graduate courses the elibility is graduation. The admission to most of these courses is done through various entrance tests at different levels and for rest of the courses the admission is done by applying directly to the college.
MBBS
The M.B.B.S Course is governed by the regulations of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka
Duration:- Four and half years + One year of internship.
Eligibility:-
Pass HSC with with Physics, Chemistry & Biology
Age:- The Candidate should have completed seventeen years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission.
Admission:- Admission is based on the Common Entrance Test (C.E.T), conducted by Karnataka Government or COMED-K
MD (Anatomy)
Duration:- 3 years
Eligibility:-
Passed M.B.B.S degree examination from a recognised Medical College
Admission:- Admission is based on PGET score merit list conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences & COMED-K.
MD (Biochemistry)
Duration:- 3 years
Eligibility:-

MD (Medicine)
Duration:- 3 years

Duration:- 3 years
